Change the barcode record collection field to appear as a "scan" button when empty. Then by tapping the scan button it will open the camera and start collection. Doing so will remove a step of tapping the field then tapping scan.

This doesn't seem like a major change, but will remove hundreds and thousands of clicks. Boom! efficiency.
