Filter child records using parent record data
Michael Anguiano
The repeatable records is useful for creating parent-child relationship data bases in the form framework. This allows users to avoid entering redundant information. Fields that are applicable to all records are entered once. For example, all repeatable records are associated with a given survey number or survey type that is entered in the parent record, but no reentered in the repeatable records associated with the Parent record. However, when we reviewing child records in Table View, you are unable to filter by the survey number and survey type fields that are in the parent record. Given the forms are building data with table relationships it would be nice to query on those related fields. Similar to what you can do in access.

Michael Anguiano Could you use a calculation field or data event to populate a field (hidden or visible) in your repeatable section that copies the survey number from the parent record? Then you can filter by it in table view

Paul Coupe: We have done that, but it has created issues with data QA. Sometimes a value is incorrect in the parent record. If you change the value in the parent record, it doesn't cascade down to all child records unless you open/edit every child record or do a batch update. It gets difficult to keep tabs on which parent records changed with multiple users.

Michael Anguiano: Ah yes I know what you mean now. I'm having similar issues, where the parent form gets updated throughout the day, but the new values wont get pushed through to the existing child records. I've had to do a Data Share to get round it, and combine the parent/child data that way. It just means that data has to be viewed/analysed in Google Sheets rather than in Fulcrum, which isn't always ideal
